Coffee Shops in “Simi Valley”: The historical Guide

The first coffee shop was opened in Simi Valley back in 1887 by John Dory. It was called the “Dory Brothers Coffee Shop” and was located on Main Street. This place served as the meeting spot for locals who wanted to socialize and have a drink.

In the early 1900s, another coffee shop opened its doors in Simi Valley. It was called the “Simmons Cafe” and was owned by Frank Simmons. He sold his business to the O’Brien family in 1919. They renamed the cafe “O’Brien’s”.

In the 1920s, the city council decided that there needed to be more businesses downtown. So they built a new building that included an ice cream parlor, barbershop, drugstore, and the “O’Brien’s” restaurant.

By the 1930s, the city had grown so much that the old building was no longer big enough to hold all the people wanting to eat and drink. So, the city council decided to build a brand-new building. In 1935, the city hall was completed. It included a cafeteria, post office, and the “O’Brien’s Restaurant”.

By the 1940s, the city had changed so much that the “O’Brien’s” restaurant closed down. That same year, the city council decided not to renew the lease for the cafeteria. So, the cafeteria became the “City Hall Cafeteria”.

Today, the City Hall Cafeteria still serves as a great place to grab lunch. But, if you want to enjoy a nice cup of coffee, then you need to head to one of the other coffee shops in Simi Valley.
